My internship is at Alpha Auto Sales, which sells used and affordable cars to the public and local communities in the general area. My specific job at Alpha Auto Sales is manager of media relations. Primarily, my job is to use social networking and new technologies to advertise and bring more awareness to the community. I usually work six hours, two to three days a week focusing on many aspects of the business.
I do enjoy my internship. Working for Alpha Auto Sales has enlightened me on how important public relations is in the society. In some degree I do believe it is a waste of my time because it is not in the field I really would like to work in. On the hand, I am pleased to learn something new and offer my skills and talents to anyone, who is in need of my assistance. I have learned a lot about buying and selling used cars, and in truth, buying or selling cars is not as easy as everyone’s misconceptions may have you believe it is. Finding a car requires a lot of time and tedious work. From a public relations point of few, I am in the process of completing a communication audit of Alpha Auto Sales.
My goal and job for Alpha Auto Sales is still the same. My goal would be to analyze and achieve my public relation goal., which is to bring more awareness to the business. Finally, after executing my public relations goal I would like to provide evidence to my employer that prove that public relation strategies are necessary.

Guest Speaker
On Sept. 20, 2010, Ron Sachs was the guest speaker for the class that afternoon. Ron Sachs public relations firm is a successful business owned by Mr. Sachs. Overall, I can tell that Mr. Sachs definitely has all three of the C’s, which are charm, charisma and character. When he introduced himself, he was very confident and pleased to be the guest speaker for professor Kinchlow. Mr. Sachs has a motto that he goes by, which is “ Don’t live to work, we work to live.”
Mr. Sachs presentation was pretty good and it was a nice and steady two-way communication between the students and guest speaker. If there was a little more time in class I would have asked, “what were your five top tips on building more clients for yourself”. I would have liked to learn more about how to build, run and maintain a public relations firm for so many years.
Under the umbrella of respecting yourself: Don’t settle for less, have and use your tools that your university has equipped you with, and also integrity are a few of Ron Sachs rules to success. Maintaining eye contact, writing and speaking well to your audience is also part of Sachs rules of success. Mr. Sachs philosophies for respecting yourself is a concept that I applied not only to my field of public relations, but also to my life. Following Sachs rules of success is a great way to increase your level of likeability, integrity and reputation amongst your clients and community.

Internship
My internship at Alpha Auto Sales has been very exciting. I like it but the work is very tedious and time consuming. I enjoy the freedom, but when a person is the only media relations representative for a company all the small tasks that needs to be done can be a bit overwhelming. Combined together it can make it difficult to complete the job or task at times. I think I am helpful to the company because before I came along the company had no insight about technology and social networking. My responsibility for my internship and my obligations for Florida A & M University will not conflict at all.
The strengths and skills that I posses is the ability to solve problems, write grammatically correct, multi-task, and understand other people’s point of views. I would like to initiate public relations strategies in order to help promote Alpha Auto Sales to the public. Conversely organizing Alpha Auto Sales would be a major help for the company.
My long-term goal for my internship is to build a friendly partnership with others by practicing on all areas of my public relations skills such as writing, framing, analyzing data and PSA’s. Also using technologies and social networking will assist me to further advance my career in public relations so that others in society will recognize me as a serious public relations practitioner.

Summer Class 2010
I was in a 6-week summer class in 2010, when I learned about public relations strategies. In my opinion, I believed that the skills and knowledge that I learned in that class was the meat and chuck of public relations. Public relations audits, communication audits, surveys and analyzing data are just a few ways to show or prove your self-worth and why a public relations practitioner is needed in today’s society. All those many different skills that I acquired from the summer class I am using those skills now at my internship. Without the prior knowledge of public relations strategies individuals probably would have not taken me seriously or recognize me as a public relations practitioner.
Fall is my last semester at Florida A & M University; I will be graduating with a B.S. in public relations and minor in graphic design. The classes that I am taking are Public Relations Campaigns, Public Relations Practicum and a senior Colloquium class. These classes are important classes I need to successfully pass to ensure that I graduate on Dec. 10, 2010; As well as an upper senior level graphic design class and class electives to help boost my GPA. The goal for this semester is to do all my work and be prepared to present, and graduate from Florida A & M University.
Other activities outside of the classrooms and the internship I am involved in are group fundraiser, event planning for my lodge brothers and improving my skills in the art of radio ads and jingles by using studio equipment. Radio ads and jingles are another great way to deliver a message to the public. Also, improving and developing websites, flyers and graphic designs, helps me to be more marketable to my company and distinguishes me from the rest of my competition. In efforts, to reach my goal in the future I am incorporating all the forms of communication that I learned and put it under one umbrella called Hudson PR Company Communicating Globally, which would be an ideal dream for me.

Job Like Experience
I decided to use my skills and knowledge that I have acquired at Florida A&M University to work for Alpha Auto Sales, which is a small business that has only been established since 2005. Alpha Auto Sales is a business that sells used cars, and strives to provide quality and dependable vehicles for its costumers. Since it is a new business I have the great honor to promote and raise awareness to the public about this company through social networking sites, and when it’s possible I will do my best to implement public relations strategies for Alpha Auto Sales.
In the past I have interned at non-profit organizations for a semester and created media kits for that establishment. I worked for other various local businesses in the Big Bend area, although some internships worked out and others did not, and also maintained a part-time job throughout my college career. Conversely, I found ways to use my public relations skills in the real world; For example, by putting together brochures, creating blogs, twitter and analyzing the best way to deliver a message.
My duty for Alpha Auto Sales is to organize, analyze and gather information to present it to the public in a way that is easily understood. A few ideas that could help include a SWOT Analysis on the company. I will also work about 10 hours a week, complete each of my responsibility and report to the owner of my weekly progress of what has been accomplished.
In this internship, I would like to know how the business really works and actually see how important public relations are in the real world. Also, this is great opportunity to for me to implement public relations strategies and to see which ones will work and which ones will not work.

Likeability: It’s An Inside Job,” by Bruna Martinuzzi
After reading, the article “Likeability: It’s An Inside Job,” by Bruna Martinuzzi, I found it to be a very interesting article. I can agree with a few of Martinuzzi’s point of views, especially about malcontent individuals, which are individuals that have more of a likelihood of scaring off employees, guest or clients. The funny thing is that most people have meet or ran across an individual with those characteristic in the past or present. Alternatively, calling people by their name and remembering it is a great way to be likeable, because people from the outside in perceive that as a friendly relationship that has been built.
Public relations practitioner must be smooth and graceful and do their job with a likable personality, while in the confusion of mass communication. Skills, a great conversationalist, and image are part of being likable. When a person is diligent, respectful and honest most people would be attracted to that positive aura and would like to surround themselves with a positive circle. An individual can attract more bees with honey than vinegar, and that goes the same with people. In my academic career, being friendly and respectful definitely helped me to build a friendly bridge with my colleagues and anyone that I may meet in my travels.
Relevance is one of the areas that I need to work on. To be interested in other people’s hobbies, interest, wants or needs I would need to actually have some interest in that particular subject. On the other hand, above the line thinking and taking the time to entertain other’s wants, needs or hobbies would be in the best interest of the public relations practitioners in order to learn and gather more data. Knowledge is power, so the more you learn the more a person earns. As a public relations practitioner being aware of new trends and technology will be to his or her advantage in order to stay ahead of the communication curve.

Building Your Personal Brand
Building your personal brand is one of the most important aspects of public relations, which some public relations practitioners over look at times. The article clarified and gave examples as to why a public relations practitioner must be aware of their self-worth in order to market their skills to the public or employers. The article suggested that public relations practitioners should get involved in the community, and even work for free. Reason being is that it will allow a public relations practitioner to continue perfecting their skills, gain networks and connections, and try out new public relations’ strategies.
If I had to follow one of the suggestions from the article it would be to volunteer your skills and knowledge with a non- profit organization. In my experience, volunteering was one of platforms I used to get my work out there to the public, so that I can make a name for myself and get recognize for my knowledge and skills. Plus, when an individual volunteers for free what he or she is gaining is worth more than money because the experience and knowledge can be applied to any other job or career.
To add on to the article “Building Your Personal Brand,” I would suggest that public relations practitioners become a little bit more technology savvy in order to be more marketable. Reason being is because the job of a public relations practitioner is to have full command or to master all forms of communication. When you generalize communication they can be divided into two general categories of how people communicate. The two categories are words and pictures, which truly do have a harmonious relationship. The underlining message is that a public relations practitioner would need to be familiar with the knowledge of how to build flyers, billboards, and websites; As well as using social networking to communicate like: RSS feeds, PSA and blogging to encompass all forms of communication.

Climate Change
Climate Change is a very important subject matter that affects the world and all living things. Many people in the world truly do not understand what climate change is. Most people believe that climate change deals with the change in climate or a hole in the ozone layer. Through the use of media platforms like print, radio and television the information about climate change can be confusing. So, how can an individual know what or who to believe in when it comes to climate change?
Part of a public relations practitioner job is to counsel our leaders and government in the hopes that we supply them with the most information to make a better decision in the future. The first thing a public relations practitioner must do is research. Research is crucial when an individual first learn about a new subject. “Climate Cover-Up, The Crusade to Deny Global Warming,” by James Hoggan explains intricate problems about global warming and how there are individuals who try to use scientific evidence to suggest that global warming does not exist. The book has plenty of interesting facts to help educate the average person in society about global warming by the use of current events that have occurred because of climate change. Hoggan has found a way to explain intricate political problems about global warming to the masses and a target audience.
After reading “Climate Cover-Up,” my eyes were opened to the scandals of global warming by corporations, government and individuals. "Junk Science" was one of the chapters in “Climate Cover-Up,” that explained a great deal about how people have paid other scientists to fabricate false data. Hoggan used Dennis T. Avery, as an example, who hired 500 scientists to find scientific evidence that global warming does not exist and that global warming is a natural event that happens all the time in nature. Another example would be “The Greening of Planet Earth,” which is a video that tries to explain how more carbon dioxide is better for the planet. This is misleading information that is purposely put out for the public to consume because it causes confusion amongst the mass audience; and if the mass or target audience is unsure about the subject at hand then they have done their job by creating doubt in the public’s eyes.
I would advocate for this book because it defines the lines between lies and truth about global warming. Thanks to authors like Hoggan for writing a book about the cover up of global warming because it helps to educate the public about what is really going on around them in their environment. In my opinion, Hoggan did not use his book “The Climate Cover-Up, The Crusade to Deny Global Warming,” to persuade or influence the mass but to enlighten the mass and allow every individual to make their own choice about climate change.

Picas (New Digital and Social Media)
There are a lot of different media outlets that PR practitioners may use in their careers. For example: newspapers, radio ads and television commercials are what I call “old school media outlets”. Traditional media outlets are still useful to use today, but because of the Internet, digital and social media the traditional media has been pushed aside or pushed to the back of line due to the explosion of digital technology.
The idea of digital and social media has exploded and spread like wildfire across the globe. Digital and social media takes the power from the big and power companies and gives the power to the common individual to spread a message or communicate to a large target audience.
For example: Picas is a great software program that is relative to the common individual or citizen and when properly used it is a great tool for public relations practitioners. Explaining in detail, Picas is a software program that organizes all your digital pictures by face, name or the time in which the picture was taken. Also, Picas has many other features that it offers to the user like a web page gallery, security option for digital pictures and helpful tools that help enhance the digital quality of a picture.
The reason I use Picas in my daily career is to upload certain digital images for clients or graphic design practitioners. JPEG is the digital format for a picture.
A JPEG format is a large file that takes up a lot of space and memory on your PC and Internet. To avoid problems with downloading a picture or opening a picture on your desktop a person would have to reduce the image file. On the other hand, uploading your digital picture to Picas web gallery allows the user to post large digital files without reducing the pixels in a specific digital images, so that clients or others would be able to download or copy the image for their personal use.
All in all, Picas is a great software program that makes sending and receiving large digital images a lot easier than in the past when a person had to hand deliver pictures to a client. Technorati, Google Reader, HootSuite and Skype are just a few of the many digital and social media that anyone can use. Digital and social media is the new wave of the future for people in society to spread their thoughts, message or pictures to the mass or a target audience.

Technology Tools for Public Relations
Technology Tools for Public Relations
Technology has helped Public Relations practitioners to advance in a growing and competitive field. 200 years ago Public Relations was unknown. The job of a P.R. is the art and science of implementing ideas, predicting trends and events and counseling leaders or others are a few of the functions of a public relations practitioner when dealing with a client or media outlets. Over time technology has enhance how people communicate and kept up with others around the world. Transferring conversation, ideas, concerns and paper through communication outlets is a P.R. practitioners dream. If, Edward Bernays had the technology that we use today his job as a P.R. practitioner would have been easier.
A few examples of how technology has helped advance P.R. practitioners include the basic advancement the fax machine has provided. In the past P.R. practitioners had to send everything by mail. The fax machine made communicating through letters more acceptable and efficient in everyday life in society.
Secondly, when the invention of the Internet arrived it open so many doors of communicating with people around the world in so many different ways. For example, email became more efficient than fax over time because people would scan their documents and email their letters online. Having an email account was like your own personal virtual mailbox that you can check at your earliest convenience, while maintaining an organized copy of preferred documents in your email account. Advertisements, junk mail and surveys are delivered to your email account nowadays, which is a great way for P.R. practitioners to have a 2-way communication between clients and their customers or for gathering information about a target audience.
Thirdly, through the advancement of telephones and text messages this technology has open another realm of communication for people and P.R. practitioners. Through texts messages alone a person can hold a live chat and receive instant messages about world breaking news, government or anything else that peeks the individual’s interest.
All in all, the underlining message is that technology is one of the best things that can happen for the field of public relations. Computers, television, copy machines and the Internet along with other types of technology and new inventions in the field of public relations have no place to go but up; as long as P.R. practitioners rely on their mind and skills first and use the technology tools in public relations as reinforcement.

Social Media- Picasa
Picasa is a software-based program, and its underlying purpose is to manage, organize and publish personal pictures for friends, family and the public to view online at their convenience. Picasa is software that must be installed on a Mac or PC computer. After Picasa has been installed Picasa automatically compiles all pictures formats and organize the entire picture into the Picasa software for example, jpeg. The software Picasa is design to keep track and allow an individual to view all pictures on the hard drive with ease. On the hand, Picasa has extra features that can help or improve a picture for online use.
Picasa has a lot of new features. It retains these functions from Picasa 1 and 2: add, delete, crop, resize, rotate picture, and modify names on the pictures. Includes Picasa 3 new editing that will allow you to come up with new and cleaver ways to publish pictures online. Picasa 3 allows you to change color saturation, edit red eyes and add text to any image. Picasa 3 allows you to make collages, or you can use the automatic shuffle to organize your pictures into folders, which contain your photos plus names, titles, events and dates. The Picasa software has plenty of options to secure the copyright of your pictures. Before you post images or pictures online, Picasa will ask you to choose a format, such as public, unlisted or registered, that will better suit your needs.“Public” means everybody can view the images, “unlisted” means only a selected few can view the images and “registered” requires a pass code to view the pictures.

Before you post images or pictures online, Picasa will ask you to choose a format, such as public, unlisted or registered, that will better suit your needs.
“Public” means everybody can view the images, “unlisted” means only a selected few can view the images and “registered” requires a pass code to view the pictures.
All in all, Picasa is a good software to manage pictures or images for Public Relations practitioners to use their careers. With the extra features that Picasa has to offer, improving an image is not difficult.

Social Media
Social Media has improved a lot in my opinion. There are so many different social media software’s that can make life for a public relations practitioner a lot smoother. For example: Picasas, Google Wave, Delicious and Bitly are just a few of the social media outlets that can help public relations practitioner or individual can use to enhance networking in community or across the globe. Social Media has helped me out in my everyday life. For example: I use Picasas to upload pictures online, instead of, downloading the picture from the Internet, because it may take hours or days before the picture is completely downloaded. I also, use Google Wave to chat online and unlike other media software’s Google Wave allows me to upload diagrams and PowerPoint simultaneously while I am on online.
All in all, social media is fairly new, but the market of social media is growing and I believe sometime, in the future that social media will be held more at higher stander, because the social media platforms will be more needed, in the future for maintaining networking and keeping in touch with people in society or the community. Social media platforms will one of the most desired places to receive information from there public, which will help out local businesses in the community.

Climate Cover-Up
James Hoggan is the author of a book called “Climate Cover-Up, The Crusade to Deny Global Warming.” Hoggan explains complex problems about global warming and how there are individuals who try to use scientific evidence to suggest that global warming does not exist. The book is full of interesting facts to help educate the average person in society about global warming by the use of current events that have occurred because of global warming. Hoggan has found a way to explain intricate political problems about global warming to the masses.
After reading “Climate Cover-Up,” I felt that my eyes was opened to the scandals of global warming by corporations, government and individuals. "Junk Science" was one of the chapters in the “Climate Cover-Up” that explained a great deal about how people have paid other scientists to fabricate false data. Hoggan used Dennis T. Avery, as an example, who hired 500 scientists to find scientific evidence that global warming does not exist or that global warming is a natural event that happens all the time. Another example would be “The Greening of Planet Earth,” which is a video that tries to explain how more carbon dioxide is better for the planet. This is misleading information that is purposely put out for the public to consume.
I would advocate for this book because it defines the lines between lies and truth about global warming. Thanks to authors like Hoggan writing a book about the coverup of global warming. It helps to educate the public about what is really going on around them in their environment.

Framing
There are many different aspects of framing that a person in public relations should know or understand, but I am only going to mention a few of the framing aspects that interests me.
One of the major aspects of framing is it is not the words you use in the message, it is how the message is heard. When you think about it that statement is kind of deep, because as a professionals we must master the skill of communication. Knowing how to present your message is key for example, if you're talking about money it is better to say "international tax" than "foreign tax" because not only does it sound better but the average individual hears the word foreign and tends to link the word with foreign oil, foreign profits or even Communist countries. People in America may not agree with the ideas or like their ways, which in turn means your message can be misunderstood by your public audience.

The Tipping Point Emerging Epidemic
The book “The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference,” by Malcolm Galdwell, was an interesting read and enlightening book. It sheds light on theories that social epidemics explode and spread throughout our society like a contagious disease that affects us all. For examples, include the 80/20 principle and the “broken widow theory.” These theories are a few of the ideas that impressed me in Galdwell’s book.
“The Tipping Point” provided the meaning of the 80/20 principle, which states that in any situation roughly 80 percent of the work will be done by 20 percent of its participants. As an example, Galdwell used crime to illustrate this theory by showing how 20 percent of criminals commit 80 percent of crimes in most societies. The 80/20 principle helped open my eyes to a bigger picture. In theory, not everyone can afford to do everything, so for the 80 percent of the world that likes fashion, cars, music or video games, only 20 percent are able to spend the money on them.
Not only can Galdwell point out the problems on a large scale, but he also gives future communicators the solution to go about solving problems that may arrive. Galdwell explains the “broken window theory” with a story about a person who takes the same route to and from work every day and passes a window that is broken and notices that the window has not been repaired. That person will more than likely trespass to see what is in the house. The way I look at it is that human beings are curious creatures and with a slight chance to steal, people will explore the situation. The underlying message for reducing crime was to fix the small things such as graffiti, trash and potholes in the streets. Those community upgrades will have an effect on people who do care about the community, instead of the opposite where the citizens don’t care about the community, because it is dirty. So why should they, is the attitude people choose to uphold.
Crime did drop significantly in those communities after the small changes were made. For me I think about the small choices I make in my life that can have a domino effect on my future, which will determine the path I walk.
